Prevent Overnight Permit Parking in Venice

Hello Everyone,

Please read and take action on 09/03/08.

Did you know:

LA city is silently and rapidly pushing to restrict overnight street parking in Venice.

The measure is being pushed so fast that the information doesn't have time to circulate to you, that's why I'm taking action to let you know about the change.

What will happen if you do nothing to prevent this:

Anyone residing West of Lincoln in Venice Beach will be required to have a permit parking displayed in the windshield of the car.
When you forget (you probably will in the beginning when you are not used to it) or when you loss it, the parking enforcers will love you more…

When your friends or family stop over, you will have to manage permits for them. And you can forget about having a house party or attending one in Venice.
You will contribute to changing Venice into what looks now like Santa Monica. We've already let Pink Berry slobber their prominent corporate identity on Ab Kinney changing the look and feel of that street. And of course, you will push the bohemian out of Venice forever changing the vibe of this characteristic community.
It looks like the city does what they want without care of their residents. Already Ab Kinney will have metered parking behind the store between Electric and Ab Kinney next year, so now you will have to pay to park if you want to go to any biz on that street.

What you can do: Take action against it with the APPEAL-A-THON

To Appeal the City's Bureau Of Engineering on Overnight Permit Parking In Venice, come by Wednesday evening, Sept 3rd from 6 to 9PM at the Venice United Methodist Church Peace and Justice Hall at the corner of Victoria and Lincoln.

Each person must bring 2 valid picture IDs for the Notary (at least one with your address) Dinner will be served for early comers.

The power is in YOUR hands, your friends and the many, NOT in the few greedy landowner and real estate developers.

Remember: doing nothing will cost you more.

I wanted to post this message for all those experiencing any kind of pain. I am a yoga teacher, UCLA physiology graduate student, and new devotee to the Egoscue Method, a structural-based self-therapy akin to pilates and yoga. I am now starting to work with the Egoscue Method and have started a group to explore it here: tribes.tribe.net/egoscue

Egoscue seems to be this wonderful combination of ’old-school’ excercise, pilates, and yoga that effectively realigns the system.

I do not work for Egoscue, I am a graduate student. But this system just totally rocked my world and not a lot of people know about it yet. I think that those involved in alternative medicine will really appreciate it.

I didn’t think I would ever be able to turn things around. It isn’t as easy as everyone seems to think. Places don’t offer all the help that everyone thinks. I sometime went for weeks without being able to shower, wash my clothes and get a decent meal to eat.

Drugs, metal illness or alcohol were not the reasons I found myself homeless. I don’t have a criminal record either. I became homeless after caring for my sick parents. While taking care of them I too became sick and lost my job. I lost my home and had to move back in with them. They got sicker and so did I. Bills mounted and I could no longer afford to pay anything. My parents died in very close succession and it wasn’t long before I was in the street. I was very sick and had no one to turn to. So I went to places that I thought would help me. They didn’t and I was homeless for a very long time.

Long story short, I am now living in San Diego where I work as a private cook for a family here. I live in the guest house and I am doing very well. I owe much of this to some really cool people. They encouraged me. Made sure I got the medical attention I needed, stood by me when others turned their backs and treated me like shit. Born and raised in a city that I still love and miss very much, but a place I no longer have a great deal of respect for. However there are still some very cool people there doing some great things to help people just like me.

Please join them as they try to help people right there in Santa Monica and Venice. Do your part to really make a lasting change in the life of someone.

Do Something Kit supplies include:

Right now I am teaming up with my sisters foundation (The Mildred Cursh Foundation) to put together a photo art show with kids from the Oakwood/Venice area. I am meeting with photographers who will work with the kids this week. I am still looking for at least 6 more photographers. You don’t have to be a pro, just love to work with kids.

I am also looking for creative people to help me design the overall look and feel of the show. If anyone here would like to volunteer their time and talent to help me pull this show off I would really appreciate it..

The children I am going to be working with for this show are pretty special kids. Most of them have parents who are in prison. So for them to be able to put on a great show would be awesome. It would help to build their self esteem and help with their overall growth.
The show is designed to allow the kids to express themselves through photography. I am hoping to find people right here from the Venice area who would love to make this happen.
Greetings,

At Gaia Festival this year, we are offering a screening of the documentary film, "Signs Out of Time," about the life and work of visionary archaeologist Marija Gimbutas on May 26, 2007 starting at 9:15pm.

Marija Gimbutas changed the way the world saw Neolithic cultures of Old Europe and helped us gain a new vision of how life can be - peaceful, cooperative and Earth-centered.

Marija’s controversial interpretations of the thousands of Goddess figurines she unearthed during her archaeological excavations gained her both staunch supporters and adversaries.

“Signs Out of Time” was produced by Donna Read and Starhawk, without any grants, funded by individuals who believed in the importance of Marija’s work.

More than ever before, Marija’s work needs to be brought to the public’s attention. Now, with the Earth in an ecological crisis of dire proportions, humankind must step up to care for Her, for Gaia, to ensure sustainable life on this planet for future generations. Order your own copy of this inspiring documentary on the Belili Productions website (http://www.belili.org/order.html).

For more information about Gaia Festival, please email Kris Oster (kris@gaiafestival.com) and check out our website with the full schedule and descriptions of workshops and events: www.gaiafestival.com.

Those of you registered to vote in Santa Monica, please remember to go out on Tuesday and vote yes on Measure Y. This measure will make marijuana use by adults in their homes the city's lowest law enforcement priority. If this measure passes, it will mean a very important step forward in the fight for freedom of choice. This is true not only because it will mean fewer Santa Monica students will lose their access to federal financial aid, and less low income families who receive subsidized housing will be put out on the street when a single member is caught violating marijuana laws, but also because it will sent a powerful message to citizen's of other communities that the fight for freedom of choice and against the gang violence caused by prohibition is not futile.

This measure is endorsed by the California Nurses Association, the California Patients Group, Drug Policy Alliance, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Medical Marijuana Patient's Union, Progressive Jewish Alliance, the Santa Monica Democratic Club, and many others. For additional information, go to www.taxandregulate.org/sm06/

Once again, please remember to vote yes on this important measure and encourage your friends to as well. Thank you.

Brian Birbiglia here with The Venice Vibe Tribe comin’ at ya’ with a whole lot of appreciation, adoration and gratitude.

I wanted to send out a personal thank you to all those that supported last weekends extravaganza, LA Decompression. One hundred thousand thank you’s could never express the way that I feel and the wonderful success that was achieved by all those that participated.

The Venice Vibe Tribe and I would like to give credit where credit is due and I am sure that other members of my tribe may be sending something out to express themselves and how they feel. This is from me!

First and Foremost, a great deal of admiration and accommodation goes out to The Fire Poise Dancers, Performers and the DJ’s. Magnificent and thrilling performances, and it was all of you that gave us the motivation behind our setup.

Secondly, my appreciation and high regards to the providers of the astonishingly extravagant art. Without it, we would have only had a blank canvas. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thirdly, to all those that volunteered their time, effort and gave so much of themselves not only to benefit our effort, but to enlighten the experience of all of the internally beautiful people in attendance! Much gratitude and appreciation are bestowed on you from me and all of us.

Finally, thank you BRC committee and rangers for their efforts in organizing and putting this thing all together. We love you and we when we think about you, we’re already half way home!

Am I forgetting anyone? If so, please bring it to my attention and I will be glad to give you proper praise…. because everyone truly deserves it!

One Final note before I wrap this up.

I wanted to thank Bobby I and The Venice Vibe Tribe Team that participated in setting up this event. Thank you Bobby I for taking on such wonderful projects, giving so much of yourself (and your cash), working with us every step of the way and for being our fearless leader. When I see you happy it makes everything all worth wild!

To my Fellow Venice Vibe Tribe Members: Working, living, socializing and just simply being with you makes life so much better. You are my family and my friends. You are the best, most wonderful people I have met since I started riding this rock around the sun over 34 years ago. All of my hopes and dreams stem from ideas that are inspired by each and every one of you. I am forever your friend, your Marine and your motivation! I love you and look forward to our next venture!

Fair winds and following seas to everyone, and we will see you sooner then you know at The Cre8tivitY Warehouse in Venice!
This weekend’s theme is Live Music (A little switch from the DJ scene). I will be heading to Autumn Lights, 2006 at the Caltrans Plaza with Bobby I earlier that evening, around 8ish. You can find more information on this at www.autumnlights.lillimuller.com if you’re interested. This ends at midnight. I have also been told that there will be an after party.

After the after party, we will be heading over to the warehouse probably around 2am but there will probably be people there much earlier.

On a friendly note, this is very new to us and every week we are coming closer and closer to really getting this thing functioning more fluently. The word is out, so please pass it on. This is going to be a weekly, weekend thing… usually on Saturdays.

What really has me totally stoked is all the help that has been offered to us by you!!! From fire poise, to DJing, to aerial acrobats… believe me, we need you. By next week I will have contact rosters, contact people and I will contact you with all that information jazz… I love you all, and thank you, thank you so much and we will see you soon!!!

OH YEAH, I almost forgot! We, The Venice Vibe Tribe, has a main stage at LA Decom… anyone wanna’ help??? Please Email me!!!

Hello everyone! My partner and I just moved to LA from Eugene, Oregon, and would love to get in touch with some fellow fire performers. While we were in Eugene we had a fire jam at our house just about every wednesday for about 6 months, then moving out of that place kinda killed that very fun get together. The best thing about having those jams was that even though we hardly knew any of each other at first, it very quickly turned into a family event and it was never burdened by competition. We helped and taught each other, and nobody ever saw it as being competitive. :)

I would say I'm intermediate as far as ability goes, and would love to expand my repertoire. He doesn't spin(though wants to learn eventually), but he's very happy being my safety. We'd love to meet some new friends down here, and I seriously want to get back in the habit of fire dancing on a regular basis.

Anyone around that wants to get together, or could refer me to parties like this that already happen? I'd also love to learn staff, fans, fingers, etc. Pretty much whatever I can get my hands on! :)

Blessings,

I'm a nice, cute 23-year-old college senior. My best features, from what I'm told, are my brown eyes, my dimples, my brutually honest nature and my passionate kisses. I strive to make the right decisions in life, as simple and as hard as it may be to know what that might be. I currently attend Cal State University, Northridge and major in newspaper journalism, which I am told by many professors that I am quite good at. I am a mild-mannered guy in that when I'm not in school I am somewhat of a homebody, go out occasionally and only want the simple things in life - a good career and a good woman in my life. The problem is that girls my own age are frivolous and only seem to want dolled-up male versions of themselves while I want a serious, very passionate relationship. Therefore, I'm looking for an older, life-experienced woman, ages 30 or older, to share a meaningful, very sensual connection with, someone who I can listen to, talk to, learn from, caress, be affectionate with, make love with, someone who I can make me feel special and vice versa. I want someone mature who I can meet on weekends and talk to, walk with, see a movie with, have a nice meal with, share love sick puppy dog eyes with, make out with, travel with, a nurturer when we make love and a true friend during those other oh so special moments outside of the bedroom, though if we hit it off those moments will be few and far between;) I welcome any older woman who either wants a friend, a best friend, a boyfriend, a regular lover, or more. Sharing love, after all, no matter how it may be defined, is the most beautiful connection two people who wear their hearts on their sleeves can share.

KNOW WAR
An Iraq War Memorial
2417 American Casualties, 5-7-2006

Sign up to participate!

Imagine a photograph of more than 2,400 Americans strewn across a vast, desiccated expanse of desert. Know War is an ambitious non-profit project that aims to depict the human cost of the Iraq War by transforming the casualty number into a visible reality. This undertaking by renowned photographer, Zach Gold, will create an image that makes death come to life.

Know War intends to raise continued public awareness by enabling people to visually understand the American death toll. There has been overwhelmingly positive response so far, including veterans associations across the country, necessary vendors to execute a project of this size, as well as many individual volunteers. Dialogue has also begun with high-level advertising executives to aid in creating an ongoing public campaign. But Know War needs more help. We seek subjects for the photograph, volunteers to assist in organizing, food vendors, and everyone who stands for an end to this war.

The shoot date for this project is June 3, 2006 from 2pm - 6pm, the location is Mystery Mesa, Santa Clarita, California. Both a 30-second Public Service Announcement and a documentary will be developed in tandem with the photo shoot.

For more information, please contact help@knowwar.com

Part of the foundation will be dedicated to working with other leading organizations involved in global efforts pertaining to sustainable agriculture and development. I wish to have sponsored programs for the youth and their communities. To educate and promote awareness through involvement is one of the primary methods I plan to use in this monumental task. What I am proposing is something that requires dedicated persons who understand the need for such a program that can add knowledge and charisma to the cause.

ANON SALON’s SEA OF DREAMS “CIRK-O-SIX”

New Years Eve, Downtown LA
This New Year's Eve, San Francisco and LA based event promoters, ANON SALON are expanding on the long running success of their legendary SEA OF DREAMS New Year's Eve spectacle by raising the bar with this year’s CIRK-O-SIX, to be held at the historic Los Angeles Theater. This year’s burlesque theme combines the party with ongoing theater performances in the famed downtown theatre.

The Los Angeles Theatre was once considered one of the four or five finest theatres in the world and the event will raise the flag of the new Renaissance of downtown Los Angeles and call upon the Golden Era of LA’s Downtown Theatre District where vaudeville and burlesque used to fill its resplendent theatre houses. Anon Salon will bring the history alive with today’s most cutting edge, avant garde performance and burlesque troupes performing in this breathtaking theater with a surrounding labyrinth of party rooms containing Anon’s live and DJ musical favorites.

The theatre built in 1931 in the French baroque style of Louis XIV, was a virtual Hollywood cathedral. Famous for its huge crystal fountain in the lobby, not an inch of the interior was left undecorated from the elegant stage curtains and ornate balcony to the intricately-carved ceiling of its lobby. When the Los Angeles Theatre was about to go under during the Depression, Charlie Chaplin paid an exorbitant amount of money to keep the posh 1,967-seat theater afloat, so that he could have the grand premiere of his masterpiece "City Lights" there. When downtown LA was abandoned for other new neighborhoods and nightlife, the Los Angeles Theatre closed and had been sitting idle, except for occasional film shoots.

Cirk-O-Six will then merge this experience with its audience base of costumed revelers to create a unique and participatory evening of entertainment.

Additionally, there is a full art gallery space attached to one of the downstairs ballrooms that will house a large art exhibit of cirque and burlesque themed works curated by Mike Russek, co-founder of Transport Art Gallery and founder of the Six Degrees Art Festival.

Lighting and an interactive environment will also be created by Los Angeles event and décor wizards, The Do Labs.

PERFORMERS

On the theatre stage:

The Buxoticas of Lucha Va Voom
Buxom * Exotica * Buxotica
Lucha Va Voom is the hot new ticket from LA, combining burlesque, comedy and costumed classic “super hero” Mexican wrestlers. Lucha Va Voom has toured the country recently selling out 2 nights at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles and invited to perform at the annual Comedy Festival in Las Vegas this year.

Lucent Dossier
Exo- glAmour Shenanigans
Full production over the edge performance art troupe specializing in vaudeville and circus shenanigans with visionary costuming and unique choreography and mesmerizing dance.

Cirque Berzerk
Cirkus for the MisLed
Cirque Berzerk has recently been producing the dinner/cirque experience combining their cirque performances with a 4 course dinner at Abundant Sugar in the Brewery Art Complex. They also produced several events and hosted their large circus event at Burning Man 2005 under a 90 ft circus tent. Performers from Cirque du Soleil join their ranks.

Skin
Aerial performance combining multi media with live/electronica.

March Forth
High-energy, eclectic and mobile unit of good times, taking a Fellini-esque mix of Mardi Gras mayhem, afro beat, Mexican hustle, sultry samba, big band accompanied by their surrealist troupe of stilt-dancers and costumed beauties, they are the new love-party paradigm.

HISTORY OF ANON SALON

ANON SALON, over the course of its 15-year existence, has helped redefine West Coast event production by producing hundreds of unique theme parties, theater festivals, art shows and even street fairs for Burning Man fans in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. The company was born out of San Francisco’s alternative art and performance scene of the 1980’s. From the beginning, they helped shape an ever-growing community of multi-media artists and event producers into a network of non-commercial, unadvertised one-off events and large public gatherings. Unlike conventional concert, club or theatrical events, these one-off gatherings were specialized one-of-a-kind theme party/events. Production laden and technologically cutting edge, they included not only music, but also performance artists, installation, lighting and video artists, theatrics and unique décor, that quickly began to attract an audience that brought their own ideas to the mix. The evolution of their party spectacles has always reflected the changing face of the creative community. As their website asserts, "ANON SALON teases technology, embraces the arts, and flirts with the unknown. … It celebrates all that's eclectic and electric in art, design, and media providing a place to grab new ideas before business as usual turns them into formulas.
Anon founders, JOEGH BULLOCK and MARCIA CROSBY have been central to San Francisco's alternative and underground art scene since the late 1970's. Besides ANON SALON, their endeavors include the GlasHaus parties of the mid-1980's, Icon Byte Bar and Grill (the first Internet bar and cafe in SF), the award-winning Climate Theater, the world famous Solo Mio performance festival. More recently, Joegh has co-created and co-produced San Francisco-based Burning Man Festival parties such as Flambé Lounge and the Decompression Heat the Street Faire.

In the early 1990's, they joined forces with then actor/director MARK PETRAKIS, known as “Spoonman” (from his popular alternative vaudeville revues called “COBRA LOUNGE”). An early web developer, already a part of the burgeoning technology scene, Petrakis was also responsible for Telecircus.com, a 1994 San Francisco arts community website that provided the first web presence for Burning Man, the Residents, Clubfoot Orchestra and many others.

Artist, event producer and social provocateur, MARK BAVA from the Monterey and San Francisco Bay Area entered the mix further bringing together audiences from communities from Humboldt to San Diego. Bava is also one of the founders of the LA Burning Man LaDecom Street Fair, Oracle Milleneum and the Blue Bongo nightclub in the Artist District of Downtown Los Angeles.

LA partner and co-producer, Stephen Samojeden is an east coast transplant who got his start in event productions in Colorado in the early Nineties. Working with friends he helped create Sol Productions, which grew to be one of the largest event production companies in the state. More recently he has helped create dozens of alternative art events in the Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles areas, including the yearly Los Angeles Burning Man Decompression Street Fairs.

Since its debut on NYE 2000, their SEA OF DREAMS event has been known as the must-see sleeper event for the in-the-know “cultural creatives”, attracting over 3,000 attendees each year to the sold out San Francisco events and last year’s LA event.

This New Year’s Eve, the ANON team will once again combine their talents and experience in the raising of Cirk-O-Six.

Hello Beautiful Peeps, Bellydancers, Art Mavens, Fashionistas and Delirious Denizens of the Underground Dance Scene

We have a delicious Tribal-Funky Freakfest to offer you this Saturday night…It’s an art and dance party that will leave you grateful that ya mama gave you an admission ticket to life.

For years, David Starfire and I have been DJing some sweet and crazy events (mostly in the Bay Area) where Breakbeats merge with World Dance Beatz. We have been wanting to create more of these Ethno Tribal Dance events here for our Southern California Dance Community.

Shapeshifters is the first such collaboration.

At ShapeShifters there will be an indoor room devoted to Funky Breaks with local legends Patricio, Ooah, David and Christian. Then outside, on the patio, the music will be devoted to delicious groovy Breaks and Tribal Beatz with strong flavas of India, Arabia and Africa.

If you love to Belly Dance or if you love Tribal Drums and Rhythms, you will want to visit the patio! Joining me there on the World Dance Beatz Crew will be Dandelion, Imagika and Tamer.

Dandelion has DJed across much of India. DJ Imagika is a belly dancer herself. Tamer's family is from Egypt, so he knows how to support you in the shimmy and shake. I have DJed Ethno Tribal dance sets across the country for crowds of over a thousand dancers (see my tribe photo album for the fun dance pixs). So we are prepared to dish it out for ya!

At 11:00 on the patio, I will be playing a set that will be begin BellydanceFunkySensual and will build to rock your sexy asses with bootie slammin Tribal Breaks and Beatz!

Out of respect for the neighborhood, we will have to chill out the music on the patio at about 1:00 AM. --- SO IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE OUR EROTIC EXOTIC PATIO DANCE SCENE, PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.

The artists reception begins at 6:00. Come before 10:00 pm and you save $5.

Now that America has spoken, and clearly indicated in exit polls that their choice of Bush was for moral reasons we should expect the president to take the electorate's mandate and move forward with certain moral issues.

I'd like to take this time to address one such issue in America that is often ignored: Bestiality.

As you might already know, bestiality is a felony level crime which is a reasonable in order to protect our animals from unwanted sex acts.

Unfortunately is not often what the law doesn't address is the outlawing of sex between consenting parties.

Any law that makes it a crime for two consenting parties from expressing their mutual love or desire denies each party their constitutional rights to " the pursuit of happiness" In this case the pursuit of happiness might be chasing the bunny through the yard in that age old of ritual of love..

It is in fact immoral to deprive our population , both two legged four legged the right to sex with partners of their choice.

Of course care has to be taken to insure that the sex is consensual. This is done easily enough.

A simple change in the law that will grant exemptions of felony charges by issuing single use sex licensees for a citizen (two legged ) and their object del amore.

If the two parties can prove their mutual desire to the local agricultural clerk Then a license of love can be granted so the parties can literally "roll in the hay" without looking over their shoulders (if they have shoulders )

Once this is proven in the rural areas we can expand this to the DMV since as we know, love is not limited to the country.

Of course great care and sensitivity must be shown in this matter and since on occasion the human and their animal lover might get carried away and forget they are in front of a local government clerk. Each DMV will have to set aside a cubicle that is not viewable by the general public.

Considering Bush's Moral mandate has come from the rural area's of the country where this sort of thing is to day I feel that the time has finally arrived to bring to light the plight of these suppressed cross species lovers so we can finally correct one of America's deep yet unspoken moral failures.

I paid $50 each and am now out of town on business and need to sell these ASAP! The show is sold out, please make me an offer on these great tickets!

In the early 1990s, comix artist Chris Ware began writing a strip for a local Chicago paper, featuring a character named Jimmy Corrigan. In 2000, the character made its debut as the beleaguered protagonist in the book Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, a brilliant, beautiful, funny and at times utterly heartbreaking graphic novel about the life of a “lonely, emotionally impaired human castaway.” The book was an overnight sensation, and “arguably the greatest achievement of the form, ever” [The New York Times]. As host and producer of public radio’s weekly Peabody Award-winning experiment in radio vérité This American Life, Ira Glass brings us true narrative epics that reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary and lend insight into the meaning of the modern American experience.

In a one-time-only UCLA Live-commissioned event, Ware and Glass tackle a mutually agreed-upon story, each in his own medium, and will present the work together live onstage. The two will discuss the making of the work and the similarities between their two very different media.
